Our School Namesake

school namesake

Ms. Nancy Neal was born on March 31, 1950 in Britton, Texas, now known as Southeast Mansfield.

She completed grade school in Mansfield, attending Erma Nash Elementary and graduating from Mansfield High School May of 1968. Neal attended college where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She went on to Texas Christian University to earn her Masters in Elementary Education in December of 1973.

Upon college graduation, Neal had three job offers – one of which was in Mansfield ISD. She returned to her hometown to teach second grade at Alice Ponder Elementary, which was named after her first grade teacher. After teaching second grade for one year, she moved to third grade where she taught for 29 years.

Neal retired in May of 2003, taking one year off before returning to work part time at Alice Ponder Elementary, where she tutored students with special learning needs. Two years later, she learned of an opportunity to assist at Roberta Tipps Elementary. Neal continues to tutor at Tipps Elementary and still feels a strong passion for teaching.

She developed her personal teaching philosophy over thirty years ago, and each year she tells her students the same thing: “I’ll meet you wherever you are and I’ll take you as far as I can.”Passion for public education and dedication to student success have been fundamental factors in Neal’s successful teaching career. Over the course of nearly forty years, she has made an immeasurable impact on her students and peers.

“She believes in children and that shows through her words and actions. She is a special person who never has an unkind word to say about anyone.” – Elna Davis – Principal, Nancy Neal Elementary School.
