NNE Cheetah Update from Dr. Patton 3/11/21

Hello Cheetah Families!

Can you believe we are approaching our Spring Break? I can’t either. My wish is that you all have a great Spring Break and enjoy the time with your children. After we return from Spring Break, things will continue to go fast and it will be May before we know it. We still have lots to learn so continue to encourage my cheetahs to give each day their best. We are almost to the finish line and we will continue on this journey together!

I have included information below on PK/Kinder Round Up, changes to the MISD calendar for this year, water bottles, and a few other things.

March 15: Student Holiday (No School)

March 16 – 19: Spring Break

March 22: School Resumes

MISD Revises the 2020-2021 Calendar

After the historic winter weather event that caused school closures in February, Mansfield ISD made changes to the current academic calendar to account for the use of a bad weather makeup day and extension of the fifth six-weeks grading period.

MISD will request a waiver from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to not make up for the additional instructional days that were missed due to the February winter storm.

April 5 – Regular Full School Day (Bad Weather Makeup Day #2

April 16 – Early Release Day

Spring Assessments – 3rd & 4th Grade

As we move closer to the end of the school year, we want to provide you with information regarding the spring testing schedule for third and fourth graders.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is requiring that the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR))/ Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) exams be taken in-person for both our in-person and virtual learners, while maintaining health and safety protocols.

This means that during the STAAR/TELPAS testing dates for a certain grade level, the in-person and virtual students for that grade level will come onto campus to take the test. (Again, the district’s extended health and safety protocols will continue to be followed for the safety of students and staff.) The STAAR testing dates for elementary school students are as follows:

  • APRIL 6: Fourth Grade in-person and virtual students take the Writing STAAR
  • MAY 11: Third Grade in-person and virtual students take the Math STAAR
  • MAY 12: Fourth Grade in-person and virtual students take the Math STAAR
  • MAY 13: Third Grade in-person and virtual students take the Reading STAAR
  • MAY 14: Fourth Grade in-person and virtual students take the Reading STAAR

Please refer to the spring assessments webpage for more information about testing and makeup testing dates. All makeup testing will take place online on the dates indicated.

Water Bottles (In-Person Learners)

Students are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottle to fill up at school. Our water fountains remain off to prevent the spread of germs, but we do have water filling stations available for students.

Class Link Pop-Up

We have learned that when logging into ClassLink, some students may receive a pop-up window that requires them to set up a Password Recovery option. If this occurs, please do the following:

  1. Select “Set Up Recovery”
  2. Choose: 1.) The “Email” Box  or 2.) The “Questions” box.
  3. Follow the prompted instructions.
  4. Be sure to click the “X” at the top right corner of the screen after completing the instructions.
  5. Once this is complete, you may proceed to your ClassLink portal.

Summer Camp at the Academy

MISD is excited to offer Summer Camp opportunities to our tiny learners this year!  There will be four weeks of creative, hands-on, and interactive explorations!  It is open to all MISD students, who complete PreK-1st grade in 20-21 (incoming K-2nd grade students for 21-22).  Registration is limited to only 150 students each week!  View the flyer below and register to reserve your child’s spot.
