Posted 12/10/2018 04:00PM

Education Foundation LogoThe Mansfield ISD Education Foundation surprised staff members with more than $93,000 in grants to support innovative projects and activities in the classroom.

The fall 2018 prize patrol went around to campuses on Nov. 15 and Dec. 6 to give away a total of 32 grants.

A majority of the grants focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) activities. There were also grants to foster student empowerment and wellbeing.

The largest grant was sponsored by Mouser Electronics for more than $15,000 to fund drones at the Jerry Knight STEM Academy.

The MISD Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that increases private support for educational activities in the district by awarding funds to teachers for innovative projects and programs that are not funded by tax dollars.

Altogether, the organization has raised more than $3.5 million in grants since its inception in 1998.
