Honoring Mansfield ISD's Dedicated Board of Trustees
Posted 01/07/2019 11:13AM

In Texas, more than 5.3 million students rely on public schools to help them prepare for the future. To advocate for these children, locally elected trustees work hard to ensure students are given the best education possible.

School board members are volunteers who donate hours of their time each month to keep students first. They are also required to complete a certain amount of training hours each year.

January is School Board Recognition Month, and Mansfield ISD is joining school districts all across the state to honor the countless contributions of these advocates for Texas students and public schools.

“Mansfield ISD is truly blessed to have a school board that always works together to ensure that our students receive the best education, that our staff members receive the best support and that the needs of the community are met,” said Superintendent Dr. Jim Vaszauskas. “We are grateful for the time they selflessly put in every day; and during this month of recognition, I encourage everyone to join me in celebrating the seven devoted members of our MISD school board.”

The men and women of the Mansfield ISD school board are (in order from left to right below):

  • Courtney Lackey Wilson, Vice President (Place 7)
  • Randall Canedy (Place 3)
  • Michelle Newsom, Secretary (Place 1)
  • Raul Gonzalez (Place 4)
  • Karen Marcucci, President (Place 5)
  • Darrell Sneed (Place 6)
  • Desiree Thomas (Place 2)

The theme for this year’s School Board Recognition Month is “planting seeds of success.” MISD schools will be honoring the trustees by hosting adoption days, in which a board member will be invited to a school as a special guest of honor.
